Durability
Teak can claim "Durability Class 1", the highest possible. It is extremely resistant to marine borers and is impervious to sea water. A deck laid in Teak is guaranteed to out last any other comparable species available. Return to Top

Colour & Texture

Teak is generally straight grained of medium texture and appears golden brown when first cut darkening with exposure to light & age. Return to Top

The Origin of Teak
Genuine Teak comes mainly from Myanmar (formerly Burma) with limited volumes supplied from Java and Thailand. In more recent times fast grown plantation Teak has been available from places such as Nigeria but the quality is poor and unsuitable for marine applications. Return to Top

Wood is the most environmentally friendly and durable asset that we have, provided it is handled in the right way. Well managed forests will provide timber in the future and Teak from Myanmar (formerly Burma) has been managed on a strictly sustained yield thanks to the original efforts of a German, Dietrich Brandis, who arrived in the country in 1856. His detailed research provide the government of the day with invaluable information regarding the potential of well maintained forestry practices which are still applied today ensuring future economic stability and continued supply.
