Teak & Alternatives

A new breed of timber products to replace the now illegal Burmese Teak.

TMT Marine®

TMT Marine®

MODIFIED FOR MARINE

The very best American Maple is selected at source to provide quarter cut, straight grain material suited to the marine environment. The timber is then thermally modified in a chemical free process, gaining both a Class 1 durability rating and a dark brown colour, similar to teak.

The product is aimed specifically at yacht decking.

A VIABLE ALTERNATIVE

The timber behaves differently to traditional Myanmar teak , in as far as it is a more brittle material following the thermal modification process.  It is therefore not suitable for thicker sections, and a small percentage may develop minor hairline cracks which will need filling. It is recommended that all installers follow steps detailed in the User Guide below.

Notwithstanding the above, TMT Marine® offers a sustainable, durable and very attractive alternative for a yacht decking project.

VSR Green Teak

VSR Green Teak

CERTIFIED & SUSTAINABLE

Solid teak from managed, sustainable plantations in South America, with excellent green credentials and FSC certification . The timber typically benefits from 40 years of growth.

A VIABLE ALTERNATIVE

The material is different to the traditional Myanmar teak , typically having a wider, less uniform grain and some colour variation.

Notwithstanding the above, it benefits from a Class 1 durability rating and will perform and age as the more traditional timber does. The colour variation identified above, whilst evident when freshly machined, settles over time, particularly with exposure to sunlight.

NOW IN STOCK

Available in 25 & 50 mm thick material, kiln dried, square edged and sorted to a premium grading, and available rough sawn or machined to profile. Sapwood and defects such as cracks, open knots, wormholes, wane and pith are not allowed.

Unlike the traditional Myanmar teak,  the lengths are shorter, ranging from approximately 1.2 – 2.5m. For larger orders we do insist on supplying a fair spread of lengths, to ensure we are not left with a disproportionate quantity of shorts.
